DeStCo- Art 2021
DeStCo-Art 2021 (The search for smiles: COVID and dentistry):
After the success of Dental Student Competition-Art 2020 (DeStCo-Art 2020) we decided to provide the opportunity for other talented dental students to showcase their art and be in with a chance to win even greater prizes than last year. DeStCo-Art 2020 saw entries coming in not only from all over the UK but from other countries such as Vietnam and Pakistan. Talented dental students who were eager to share their passion for dentistry through creative artwork.
DeStCo-Art 2021 is here as a new and modified version of last year’s competition. We had requests from many to include photography as well as all the other art forms we accepted last year. So, for all of you photographers out there, we have great news! Get out your cameras and be on the hunt for the perfect picture, this year photography will be a huge part of our competition!
What we are looking for:
Masks are becoming one of the essentials of day-to-day life in many parts of the world and for the dental profession this is a significant change. Creating smiles has always been the ultimate goal for dental professionals but currently smiles have been hidden under the barrier of masks. Meanwhile, some of us have learned new ways of smiling by using other facial features. The term smizing was first used by Tyra banks in 2009. Never before has there been a time when this term could be more applicable. This year DeStCo-Art is all about how we are adapting to the ‘new normal’, with the topic being ‘The search for smiles: Dentistry and COVID’, we are looking for the most creative entries about this topic.
Criteria for DeStCo-Art 2021 entries:
Types of artwork accepted in this competition:
Digital paintings and sketches (including 3D designs)
Models (origami, sculptures, clay, cardboard)
Textiles art forms (embroidery, knitting, carpet, dyeing)
All of these will be accepted if related to the topic of ‘The search for smiles: Dentistry and COVID’.
The art entries must be submitted in the form of an image in jpeg or PNG format and along with the submission form through the upload link provided at the bottom of this page.
All works are only accepted if submitted via the defined submission platform and within the determined submission window of 1st February to 30th May. Any entries submitted after the deadline will not be considered for this competition.
Voting and selection of winning entries:
Entries submitted through the submission link will go through the DeStCo-Art approval committee and once the originality and appropriateness of the work has been confirmed it will be put to public vote.
Once the voting period begins voters may cast their votes through the dedicated voting section on our DeStCo-Art page at: https://www.ukdentalcourses.com/destco-art-1
