Laboratory Manager in the Dental Physical Sciences Unit
Before I started working for Queen Mary University of London I was working at Guys Dental Hospital as a qualified dental nurse (RDN) in the restorative department, I was asked to organise a treatment plan clinic run by the consultant to allocate patients to the undergraduate dental students for the treatment needed, being a qualified dental radiographer I took all the radiographs needed in this clinic and was the radiation protection supervisor. I was asked to do CPD teaching in Radiography for all the dental nurses and Matron in Guys Hospital which was very successful, I also teach dental Nurses to gain their NEBDN qualification
I applied a job at the Royal London where I got the opportunity to move onto a post in the clinical skills laboratory as the manager this entailed Maintaining the laboratory to the highest standard of clinical skills ready for dental undergraduate training, help organise courses in the laboratory,
I was the main organiser and co-ordinator for the Licence Dental Surgery (LDS) Exam for the royal college of surgeons, along with organising Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses taking place in the Lab. Research trials that come into the laboratory.
I really liked doing research trials, a post came up at Mile End for the Dental Research Laboratory Manager which I applied for and was successful in obtaining this all research base lab. The laboratory at the Dental Physical science Lab contains MSc, PhD M Clin dent, Prosthodontics, MID Students all doing research projects for couple of years, there are other students doing other small research projects. My post is to manage and organise 19 individual research labs, enable myself to train on the equipment and machines so I can pass on this knowledge to the new students.
I also teach dental Nurses to gain their NEBDN qualification
