About the Event

Dear All,

I am to invite you to the forthcoming Barts and The London Dental Club Annual Clinical Meeting, which returns as an in-person event at the Queen Mary University of London Whitechapel campus on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 June 2022.

Our programme: ‘Inner Smile’

See this year’s full programme of specially curated CPD-accredited presentations.

On Friday, our line-up of speakers will feature Ms Serpil Djemal on the management of acute dental trauma, Dr Sham Shaamsi on medico-legal aspects of dentistry and insights from Dr Manish Verma, a HEMs Registrar with London’s Air Ambulance. Dr John Buchanan will speak about oral medicine and Dr Aditya Naidu about prosthodontics. An interactive panel session with Dr Domniki Chatzopoulou, Professor Simon Holmes, Dr Sharan Sidhu and Kitichai Janaphan, a current Periodontology DClinDent student, will discuss the dental management of patients with craniofacial trauma.

In the afternoon, the Slack Medalwill be presented to Dr Sarah Bourne, Senior Tutor in Dental Radiography. The Evelyn Sprawson Lecture, ‘Joseph Merrick, Frederick Treves and the Story of the Elephant Man’, will be delivered by double alumnus and former Senior Coroner for Suffolk, Dr Peter Dean (BDS, 1975; MBBS, 1982).

On Saturday, Professor Shakeel Shahdad will speak about implant dentistry and Dr Jeremy Cooper will discuss stress and anxiety in dentistry. A special panel on dental hypnosis will feature Dr Mike Barsby, Dr Munir Ravalia and Dr Mandy Kent. This year‘s Meeting will close with the handing over of the presidential reigns to Dr Amitha Ranauta.

Over the course of the two days there will be lots of opportunities to network with Dental Professionals and Institute of Dentistry alumni, current students, and staff. In addition, you can meet exhibitors at our Trade Show, view student poster presentations, and following the Evelyn Sprawson Lecture, explore the Doniach Gallery, which houses The London Hospital Medical College’s historic pathology collection. We also hope we can tempt you to join us for dinner in the Old Library on Friday evening.
