Course Summary:

This online session will introduce you to basic application of Laser therapy in general dentistry.

The comprehensive online course is designed for Dentists, therapists, Hygienists, Dental care professionals and Dental nurses.

Aims

To provide the update and practical training in the application of laser therapy in a general dentist practice.

Learning outcomes

On the end of course the doctors will:

be able to use lasers at introductory level in dentistry.

know how to choose lasers for different dental procedure.

be able to recognise difference among the lasers according to lasers affinity for different tissues.

understand how to apply laser therapy in dentistry.

be able to apply and use lasers in general dental practice.

Speaker

Dr Vesna Karic

Dr V Karic was born in Belgrade, Serbia, EU. She emigrated to South Africa in 1993.

Dr V Karic has joined WITS University, Dental School in 1994. Dr V Karic has graduated at WITS University with MSc in dentistry in 1999, She married in South Africa and has 3 children (1997, 1999, 2002). She was promoted to senior lecturer by WITS University, 2012. She has been using and teaching lasers to undergraduate and postgraduate students in dentistry from 2012. Dr V Karic completed Mastership, Laser Therapy in Dentistry, Aachen University, Germany, in 2017. She has graduated with Health Sciences Diploma in Education, WITS University, in 2018. Dr V Karic has registered for Doctorate candidate in Biomedical technology, Laser Research Centre, University of Johannesburg, in 2018. The topic of the theses is: Laser differentiation of Human Adipose Derived Stem Cells to Temporomandibular joint disc cells.

She is presently heading Laser Therapy in Dentistry Division, DNS clinic and TMD clinic in department of Prosthodontic and Oral Rehabilitation, Oral Health Sciences School, WITS University.
